The five costs in a restaurant POS
Setup fee: a one-time charge to set up the menu, tables, taxes, printers and staff.
Yearly or monthly fee: the software itself. Check whether it is per outlet, per device or per user.
Add-ons: kitchen display, waiter app, online orders and similar modules are often priced separately.
GST: software is billed with 18% GST in India. Ask whether the quoted price includes it.
Hardware: a thermal printer, and a laptop, tablet or Android phone if you do not have one.
Treeo POS price, worked out
Setup: Rs 10,000 once. Software: Rs 5,000 a year for one outlet. Each add-on (Kitchen Display, Captain app for waiters, Outdoor orders): Rs 1,000 a year. All prices are plus 18% GST.
First year with no add-ons: Rs 15,000 + GST = Rs 17,700. Every year after that: Rs 5,000 + GST = Rs 5,900.
First year with all three add-ons: Rs 18,000 + GST = Rs 21,240. Every year after that: Rs 8,000 + GST = Rs 9,440.
There is no per-device or per-user fee: billing counter, waiters and kitchen screens are included in the outlet.
Ways to keep the cost down
Use the devices you already have. A browser-based POS runs on a laptop, tablet or Android phone.
Keep your current thermal printers if they connect over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB.
Start with the base plan and add the kitchen display or waiter app only when the floor gets busy.
Ask for the menu to be read from your PDF or photo instead of paying for days of typing.
What to ask before you pay
Ask for one number for the first year and one for each year after, with add-ons and GST included.
Ask what happens if you stop paying: can you still see your old bills and reports?
